Suggested Structure of an M.S. Report
Introduction
- Describe in a nutshell what the report is about; i.e., describe the major area of research and how
your specific topic relates to the major area.
- Write a short justification of why your work is of value, and why the reader might be interested
in it.
- Present a guide to reading the rest of the report.
Review of the Literature
- Precisely define the area with which your work deals. Also introduce definitions and vocabulary
that are needed in comprehending and communicating in this area.
- Survey representative books and articles that deal with this area. For each of these, state how your
work compares with the concepts/work that is described in the article.
Your Work
- Give an overview of your work. Much of this can be drawn from your user requirements and functional specifications. Make sure that you do not fall into the trap of getting too specific; you
should not describe anything to the point of actually dealing with specific variable names. You
may wish to include scenarios that provide typical user interaction with the system. Any detailed
syntactic and semantic description of yoru system's commands should be put into an appendix
that is referred to in this chapter.
Conclusions
- Describe the value of your work to others.
- Describe possible extensions of what you have done.
