Women's Rainbow by A.J. Lopez
A.J. Lopez's Women's Rainbow

I am a trans(gender/sexual) woman, having belatedly begun my transition from male to female in 2000.

Like many trans people, I always felt I was "different" in terms of gender, but only at middle age did I find sufficient courage to begin making the changes needed to make myself feel at home in society and with my own body. I started with changes in presentation, and later began hormonal therapy, which is gradually changing how I look. I underwent genital surgery in August of 2008, and in the eyes of the government (US and Kansas), I'm now considered female.

I'm happy to talk about my transition and to answer respectful questions. I understand that it is hard to begin thinking of someone as female when you've known them for years as male.

I was featured in a K-Statement article entitled "Professor has high hopes for transgender acceptance".
