Using Emacs/VM for Mail on a Mac

The programs and files in this directory may be useful to people who
want to read and send mail using Emacs/VM on Mac OS X, but you'll have
to put quite a bit of work into building and configuring everything.

See http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/ for information about Emacs,
and http://www.nongnu.org/viewmail/ for information about VM.

Mail is queued and sent to an SMTP host using the Standard ML program
in msmtp-queue, which relies on msmtp (http://msmtp.sourceforge.net/).

Mail is retrieved from an IMAP or POP server using fetchmail
(http://fetchmail.berlios.de/).

There are instructions for starting the msmtp-queue and fetchmail daemons
upon Mac startup - see the StartUpItems directory.

There are some useful scripts and startup files in the misc
directory.

The Mail Check directory contains a Mac application for keeping
track of whether unread mail has been retrieved or unsent mail
is currently queued.

Comments or requests are welcome, but I make no promises about
providing help.
