Information about Pamela Cook

I am a senior majoring in Computer Information Systems (CIS). After I graduate from Kansas State University, I would like to obtain full-time employment performing database or network administration duties for a local business. When I am not in class, I am working for the local Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) as a Vocational Rehabilitation Intake Specialist. When I am not working or learning in the classroom, I am spending my leisure time playing with my two Boston Terrier dogs, serving as a mediator between my two teenage children, relaxing with my husband, socializing with friends, and growing in my Christian faith.

I am motivated to learn IT concepts in order to better assess their applicability in various business sectors. This class will provide the formal training in end-user software programs that are commonly found in businesses which in turn, will increase my marketability to employers who are seeking applicants with knowledge of current IT practices. While this class may be time-consuming and intensive due to the condensed semester length, I welcome the challenges so I can further my CIS studies in the fall semester.

I am enjoying this class. I would like to learn more about programming languages, especially Visual Basic. Even though web page design is a new skill for me, I would rather learn how to customize Microsoft Office utilizing Visual Basic in order to make business processes more efficient. Regardless of the programming language I will be learning in the future, I have been exposed to the basics of programming in this class. While the class projects and assignments take time, I like that students are challenged to be accurate, detailed-oriented, and efficient.
