A Letter to Friends in the CIS Department

Friends, Co-workers, Faculty, and Staff,

I'm writing you to ask for your support. I'm pleased to announced that this year I am again the member of a team in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. This year's event is on April 21st and 22nd here at Kansas State University. Hundreds of people will be walking for 12 hours to help raise money to fight cancer. This may seem very last minute to be fundraising for an event this Friday, but it's never too late to help with an event so important.

I will be walking in honor of my mother, Christi Bradshaw, who was diagnosed with Stage IV terminal breast cancer over six years ago. She is now an amazing cancer survivor--in remission--thanks to a new (at the time) and radically experimental clinical trial that was funded, in part, by the American Cancer Society.

Many family members and friends, not unlike my mother, are still with us today thanks to the American Cancer Society. In fact, the American Cancer Society and it's researchers have contributed to most of the major cancer research breakthroughs of this century, including the pap smear, mammogram, bone marrow transplant, radiation treatment, chemotherapy treatment, and even the CAT scan. You can find more information about the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.

Your donation to the Relay for Life is very important and will most certainly help make a difference. Please help me raise money for this life saving event. My mother wouldn't be here today without donations to the Relay for Life.

You can make donations of any amount in cash or check payable to the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society provides receipts for donations greater than $10 that can then be used for tax deduction purposes. Please email me or call me at 785-317-2813 if you have any questions or would like me to come by and pick up a donation. Our team hopes to raise over $1999 for the hope of a cure, and we will need all the help we can get.

You can also purchase luminaries in honor or memory of a friend or loved one to be displayed for the Relay for Life event and included in the luminary ceremony on April 29th. Luminaries do not count towards our team totals, but are a great way to support the cause. I always purchase a luminary for my mother, grandmother, and family of close friends AND donate to a team. I would encourage the same!

Thank you for your support!
